Manure spreading several times during the year is part of most animal feeding operations. There are many methods as to how this task is performed and regulations on when and how much manure can be applied. As the urban sprawl continues to increase, more complaints are sure to come.
A good article in the May|June issue of Manure Manager addresses the practice and how people outside the industry react to the spreading of manure when it happens. In the article the journalist against the practice made claims that this is what the industry is up to now.
The method of irrigating manure is not a new practice, but one that is not widely used in the industry as a whole. In fact, in Wisconsin the percent of farms using this method is far less than 1% of the farms in the entire state, as noted by the Wisconsin dairy industry.
